Noise Control Guide

When selecting the proper noise control technique and material for your application it is important to understand a number of fundamentals:

1) What type of noise is the problem?
Is it high or low frequency?

2) Is the noise to be absorbed or contained?
Do you want to reduce noise reflection (echo) or do you want to isolate a noise to a certain area?

3) How "loud" is the noise?

4) What result is acceptable?
What are the noise regulations for your area?

Having analyzed the acoustical problem it is now possible to choose the best method of Acoustical Upgrading. Considerations at this point may include:

1) Is there a budget to be met?
Will the acoustical upgrading be completed all at once or in stages?

2) What type of decor shall the acoustical treatment match or highlight?

3) How important are durability, wearability, and longevity?

Once these considerations are answered the next logical step is to search for a product that best provides the attributes needed. To do this always compare "Apples to Apples". Be sure to analyze the cost per sound absorption unit (or sound transmission), not just the cost per unit area.
